RE-RECORDING MIXING
The final mix is where the film finds its voice.
Dialogue, Foley, sound effects, sound design and music may each have their own journey through post-production, but the final mix is where they become one soundtrack.
It's where decisions about space, perspective, dynamics and emotion come together — knowing when a sound needs to be heard, when it needs to sit back, and when the soundtrack should simply get out of the way and let the picture speak.
THE POWER OF CONTRAST
A great mix isn't about making everything bigger.
It's about balance, contrast and intention.
A quiet conversation can be just as powerful as a full cinematic sequence. A single sound can carry more impact when everything around it falls away. Music can build beneath dialogue, effects can move through the space, and a moment of silence can create more tension than a wall of sound.
I approach every mix around the story and the emotional journey of the scene.
Every element has a place.
Every transition has a purpose.
Every moment has its own level of impact.
WHERE SOUND BECOMES CINEMA
I bring together everything that has come before.
Dialogue and ADR provide the voice of the characters.
Foley gives movement and physicality.
Sound effects and design create the world around them.
Music carries emotion, tension and momentum.
I shape these elements into one soundtrack — coherent, natural and cinematic.
It's not simply about making individual tracks sound good.
It's about making them belong together.
SPACE & PERSPECTIVE
Film sound exists in a three-dimensional world.
Where something comes from, how close it feels, how large a space appears and how the soundtrack moves with the picture can fundamentally change the audience's experience.
I use the surround field to create depth, scale and perspective, from intimate scenes that keep the audience close to the characters to sequences where the entire room becomes part of the experience.
The mix should support what the audience is seeing — and sometimes tell them something the picture can't.
THE FINAL SOUNDTRACK
Once the creative mix is complete, the soundtrack still has to work as a finished deliverable.
I can provide 5.1 and stereo masters, M&E and DME stems, dialogue, music and effects stems, along with the required print masters and delivery elements for the project.
The technical side matters.
But the technical side should never get in the way of the creative one.
THE CINEMABASS APPROACH
The best mixes don't draw attention to the mixer.
They draw the audience deeper into the film.
Sometimes that means intimacy.
Sometimes it means scale.
Sometimes it means holding everything back until the right moment to let the soundtrack open up and hit.
That's where I want the mix to take the audience.
Make the sound serve the story.
Make the space feel real.
Make the moments matter.
And when the final frame ends, leave an impression.
